Ruby's Arival

December 13, 2010. Jacob and I woke up at 5am loaded everything in our car and headed out the door for Bayfront Baby Place. When we walked outside it was freezing cold, super windy and raining. The night before we covered all our plants with sheets, but the wind had blown half of them off. So we had to recover them in the freezing rain. Once we were done we jumped in the car and warmed up just as we reached the hospital.

As always we missed our turn, so we did a quick, barely legal u-turn and turned into the parking lot. We pulled right up to the front door expecting a valet to park our car for us in this nasty weather, but there was no one in sight. So we drove around the parking lot for about 2 or 3 minutes trying to find a good spot. After  pulling in and than out again of few spots we gave up and parked in the closest far spot we could find. We jumped out, grabed our bags and ran through the rainy, windy, freezing weather. We headed up to the 3rd floor after getting our names tags (which took forever) and signed in.

Around 6:30 we were taken back to our laboring room. The same room my sister Emily had when delivering her son back in July.

Emily was the first to arrive around 7:30 she had been texting me since about 6:00 she was almost if not just as excited as we were.

My parents,

my cousin Kristen

and other sister Lorena arrived shortly after her.
Around 9:30 I got my epidrual I was a little scared because nobody could be in the room with me aside from my nurse. She did a great job of comforting me while I tried not to act like a big baby.

Dr. Biss came in and broke my water that was around 10:30ish. My nurse checked my around 12 and said I was 5 centimeters 85% effaced and a -1. She was predicting my birth at around 6 or 7 that night. Plenty of time for our family to arrive. Lorena had to leave around 2ish to get her 2 girls at school, she was so nervous that she wouldn't make it back in time. We all reassured her that she had plenty of time.

At 2:30 my nurse came in and checked me again. I was 6 to 7 centimeters. She said she needed to roll me on my side for some reason I can't remember. Emily and My mom were in the room along with Jacob they got Lorena on the phone for an update again reassuring her that she had plenty of time. After 5 minutes of  being on my side I started having really heavy contractions. Now here's where the story gets interesting and funny. Try to use your imagination for the rest of the story. I started off moaning. That quickly turned into yelling which turned into me yelling at Jacob to push the button. "PUSH THE BUTTON!!!" ( the button was to increase my epidural dosage). My mom and Emily decided it was best to leave. Jacob rushed around the other side of my bed looking for the button as my nurse rushed to the foot to check me again. She quickly got another nurse on the intercom and told her to call the Doctor because I was ready to push. So I'm screaming, she's trying to talk to the nurse and Jacob is trying to comfort me while trying to call his family to tell them that I'm going to start pushing. I'll never forget his phone call to his mom. He called her house and no one picked up so he left her this message "CRYSTAL'S PUSHING! BYE!" My poor mother in-law went to check her messages and freaked out because Jacob's yelling at her on the phone and I'm screaming in the background.

The nurse told me I needed to wait until my Doctor arrived. I almost ripped her head off. While I was waiting my dad came back to check on me. He got to the door heard me screaming and turned around and went back to the waiting room and up to my mom and said "Honey, I think you should go." She came in and took a spot right next to Jacob. They both tried to comfort me while I was waiting to push. About10 minutes later (which seemed like 10 hours) Dr. Biss arrived it was 2:50 Ruby June Cunningham arrived at 3:10 pm December 13, 2010.

While Ruby was being cleaned up Dr. Biss held up her umbilical cord she pointed out a big knot in it and told me that Ruby was a miracle baby. I started crying and did so whenever I would mention it to anyone. I later found out that a lot of still births are caused from knotted cords and there's no way of seeing them in the womb. God truly watched over her. So that's how my sweet Ruby June arrived.
